Simple ways men can reduce under-eye bags

Simple ways men can reduce under-eye bags

In Crazy, Stupid Love, Steve Carell receives a devastating insight when Ryan Gosling whispers to him: “Under your eyes look like Hugh Heffner’s ball-sack.”

Incredibly cruel but as Steve’s character realises, true.

If you’ve looked in the mirror as you’ve shaved and started to think you’re looking old before your time, improving the skin around your eyes can have a big, positive impact.

And it should take just a few short weeks to make it happen.

Why eye-bags occur

The skin around the eyes is very thin and delicate, so it is more susceptible to dehydration than other parts of the body. Puffy eyes, dark circles and veins around the eyes are often the result of dehydration.

Water helps keep the tissues around your eyes hydrated. When they are not, this tissue can swell, which can lead to puffiness.

The eyes also have a large number of blood vessels. Blood thickens when you haven’t drunk enough water.

Under your eyes, an area with thin skin, lots of blood vessels and not enough hydration, can cause that puffiness under your eyes.

What you can do

Do the following each day to reduce those eye-bags:

On the inside - Drink plenty of water. Aim to drink six to eight glasses of water each day.

On the outside - every morning, after cleaning your face use The Eyes Have It. In just half a pump onto your fingertips, and light dabs under the eye, you'll have added significant hydration.

At night  and this is the hard one – get plenty of sleep. Aim for six to eight hours of quality sleep.

You may notice small changes within a few days but it will take about four weeks to see long-term results, so take a “before” photo of your eyes, and track how much difference you see at the end of the month. We'd love to hear your story!

Small things, done consistently, lead to great results.

And you only have to do the small things, because we've done the big things. Understanding skincare can be overwhelming. But at The Ready Man we’ve collated the best natural hydrating, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, skin repair and skin protection ingredients in just one pump … jojoba oil, shea butter, avocado oil, macadamia oil, cucumber oil, cocoa butter, Vitamin E, Vitamin B5, soya bean oil, lilly pilly extract, kakadu plum extract and quandong fruit extract.

Don't believe skincare products are worth it? Here are scientific studies that support this:

  • A study published in the journal Ophthalmology in 2010 found that dehydration can cause puffiness and dark circles under the eyes. The study found that people who were dehydrated were more likely to have puffy eyes and dark circles than people who were hydrated.
  • A study published in the journal Skin Pharmacology and Physiology in 2012 found that the skin around the eyes is more susceptible to dehydration than other parts of the body. The study found that the skin around the eyes is thinner and has fewer oil glands than other parts of the body, which makes it more prone to dehydration.
  • A study published in the journal Experimental Eye Research in 2013 found that dehydration can cause the blood vessels around the eyes to become more visible. The study found that people who were dehydrated were more likely to have visible blood vessels around their eyes than people who were hydrated.

Take care of yourself!
